A Monaghan Councillor has called for the council to condemn the all those involved in neglect mistreatment and abuse of residents in Nursing homes.
Cllr. Seamus Coyle raised the issue in October's full council meeting.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he highlighted that elderly people are the most vulnerable in society.
He called on the government to prioritise the strengthening of safeguarding protection across the health and social care sector.
Cllr Coyle said that in light of recent controversies, confidence in HIQA, and the HSE is very low.
He said: "Something that is still in my mind, is the number of deaths that were in our nursing homes during COVID. It clearly showed, the standards were poor.
"We must remember, and this is where I would be questioning the confidence in HIQA, and the inspection regime, there was a number of homes that RTE exposed were passed, and went through the process of HIQA inspection. And yet, an undercover team of RTE could go in and show the abuse," Cllr. Coyle added.
