A National Protest for the Irish language and the Gaeltacht has been announced to take place this Saturday in Dublin.
According to organisers, this protest is a ‘direct result of failure by both northern and southern governments to adequately resolve long standing crises regarding language rights, Gaeltacht housing, education and funding’.
The rally will begin in Parnell Square before making it’s way through Dublin City Centre to convene at Leinster House for a final demonstration. There is a number of calls to action which include: funding, Gaeltacht housing, education and language rights.
The most recent national Irish language rally in Dublin was in 2014. Buses are travelling from all parts of the country for the protest.
Sean O Murchada is the Cathaoirleach of Muineachan le Gaelige and he says people from Cavan and Monaghan will be in attendance. Sean says the Irish language needs to be properly resourced.
