A major housing development has been approved by the higher planning authority.
The construction in Cavan Town had initially been delayed due to appeal.
134 new houses had been granted permission by Cavan County Council but this decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
Shire Development Partnership applied to construct 134 houses on the Cootehill Road, with 109 of these houses in lands at Billis and Drumalee.
The houses were proposed to be a mix of one and two storey buildings, and would be made up of 6 one-bed, 39 two-bed, 59 three-bed, and 5 four-bed units.
The other 25 units would be duplex apartments consisting of 15 one-beds, and 10 two-beds, ranging from two to three storeys in height.
The application also included the provision of a crèche with associated parking, bike, and bin storage, as well as play areas.
The development was subject to a number of submissions from residents of Carraig Beag in Drumalee.
Some submissions asked for the height of the apartment blocks to be reduced, as they would have significantly reduced the natural light for the homes nearby.
There were other concerns about heavy traffic levels on the Cootehill Road, especially during school term time.
An appeal lodged to An Bord Pleanála has now been settled, with the higher planning authority approving the project subject to 23 conditions.
These include the condition that the internal road network serving the proposed development be compliant with the construction standards of the planning authority, in the interest of traffic and pedestrian safety.
