A local councillor says a number of recent funding announcements for Kingscourt will make the area a wonderful tourism destination.
Cllr Clifford Kelly described the €500,000 in funding announced for recreational facilities in Kingscourt as fantastic.
€500,000 will go towards the Kingscourt Railway Hub located at the former Kingscourt Railway Station complex on the R179 Carrickmacross Road on the outskirts of Kingscourt, and will provide car parking, seating, bike repair, e-bike charging, and a bus stop, in addition to provision for bike hire and landscaping and fencing.
A Part VIII planning application in respect of this development was approved in March 2025 of this year.
On top of that, a playground in the forest park in Kingscourt is almost complete also following a €500,000 in the park that was announced by Heather Humphreys over two years ago.
Cllr Kelly says its wonderful to see what is planned for the town, which also includes a 14 million euro investment on the main street in Kingscourt and the planned link up of the greenway and Dun A Ri Forest Park. He says the plans for the area will have huge benefits for generations to come.
Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, Eoin Doyle added, “This development forms part of an overall strategic vision for Kingscourt, which sees our Rural Development and Tourism Section working with our Active Travel Team to link the town core with the greenway hub, to Dún an Rí Forest Park and, in time, to nearby accommodation providers. These strategic connections will create a critical mass of experiences, improve accessibility, and increase dwell time in the locality, thus contributing to the local economy”.
