Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Deputy Brendan Smith has welcomed the decision by the Department of Education to give approval to Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board to proceed to Stage 2b planning for the major building project at Breifne College.
Deputy Smith raised the need to advance this project to enable the ETB to submit a planning permission application in Dáil Eireann last week.
This Additional School Accommodation project for Breifne College will provide 4 general classrooms, 7 Special Education Teaching (SET) rooms, 3 science labs with 2 preparation rooms, 2 engineering rooms, 2 technology rooms with 2 preparation rooms, 1 graphics room, 1 art room, 1 textiles room, 1 home economics room, 5 project stores and a 2 classroom Special Education Needs (SEN) base.
According to Deputy Smith, this is an "exciting project" for the school community in Breifne College and will be "extremely beneficial" for students for many years ahead.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the local TD highlighted the need to ensure that students and teachers have the best possible facilities for teaching and learning:
