Major turnout at 50th anniversary ceremony of Castleblayney bombing

A no-warning car bomb exploded outside the Three Star Inn on Main Street at 8:20pm on the 7th of March 1976, with 56-year-old man, Patrick 'Packie' Mone, killed in the blast.

A well-attended wreath-laying ceremony has taken place to mark 50 years since the Castleblayney bombing.

A review was launched into the incident in March 2020, and families who lost loved ones in attacks related to the Glenanne Gang are awaiting the publication of Operation Denton.
