A 28 year old man who was charged in connection with brandishing a knife on the Main street of Carrickmacross earlier this year has been further remanded in jail.
David Covaciu with an address at Ardee Road, Magheross, Carrickmacross was charged with 2 offences under the firearms and offensive weapons act 1990.
The 2 counts relate to possession of a knife in a public place. His third charge is for abusive and threatening language under the Public Order Act. The court heard last month that Mr Covaciu was seen by a number of eye witness and also captured on mobile phone footage that has been widely circulated on social media.
Judge Raymond Finnegan was told in April that the suspect can be seen on broad daylight yesterday evening brandishing a silver flick-knife, 4 inches in length in an aggressive manor that caused great distress to the general public. Mr Covaciu appeared at Monaghan District Court where he was further remanded at Cloverhill prison.
He appeared on a number of other charges relating to being stopped at a service station in Castleblayney on the 15th of March this year. He was the driver of a vehicle at the time and was arrested and hus bloods tested positive for both cannabis and alcohol. He was found to have no insurance, no NCT and no tax at that time.
His alcohol reading was 107 and he had a previous conviction in 2019 for dangerous driving. The court heard he has been in Ireland since 2017 and he has two children.
Judge Raymond Finnegan was told the accused has been in custody since April on another matter. He was disqualified for driving 2 years along with the Section 56, no insurance, the court heard he paid €500 and was also disqualified from driving for 5 months. He was further remanded to custody with consent to bail in relation to the brandishing of a knife in Carrickmacross.
He will appear again on July 7th via video link to indicate DPP intentions.
