A man has died in a fire in an apartment in Monaghan Town last night. Two fire brigades from Monaghan and one from Ballybay attended the fire at Rowantree Court in Mulach Glas shortly after 8pm.
This morning, a spokesperson for the Fire Service confirmed to Northern Sound that one adult male sadly lost his life in the blaze. The man, who was in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other persons in the apartment at the time.
Gardaí have sealed off the scene of the incident for a technical examination and the deceased man's body has been removed to hospital for a post mortem. The results of the post mortem examination will then determine the course of the garda investigation.
