Man further remanded over threatening to burn Monaghan IPAS centre down

The accused man is alleged to have poured petrol over himself in a row over his living arrangements at the local accommodation centre.

A resident at an asylum seeker accommodation centre in Co Monaghan has been further remanded in jail in relation to allegedly threatening to burn the premises down.
The accused man is alleged to have poured petrol over himself in a row over his living arrangements at the local accommodation centre.

40-year-old Hardi Abubaker Hama Ali, with an address at The M Hotel, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, appeared video-link this morning charged with issuing the alleged threat at the establishment on Friday the 18th of July.

The State objected to bail last month primarily on the nature and strength of evidence investigating gardai had managed to garner since Mr Hama Ali's arrest.

It will be alleged by the arresting Garda that Mr Hama Ali's clothes were "visibly wet" upon gardai's arrival to the scene with officers noting a "strong smell of petrol".

The 40-year-old Kurdish national was given consent to bail and he was told if a suitable address was obtained and was acceptable by the courts then he would be allowed to take up bail.

Appearing via video-link this morning from Castlerea prison at Monaghan District Court he was further remanded by Judge Stephanie Coggans to appear at Monaghan District Court on the 29th of August.
