A Lithuanian national who resides in Cavan Town has been remanded in custody following a drugs seizure worth an estimated value of €112,000.
48-year-old Alexsej Sergejev with an address of 40 St Clares Court, Cavan Town appeared before Monaghan District Court today and is charged with possession of drugs for sale or supply.
As part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the area, Gardaí from the Divisional Drugs Unit stopped and searched a vehicle seizing a quantity of cannabis in Cavan Town yesterday.
Gardaí carried out a follow-up search under warrant at a separate location during which cannabis with an estimated value of €112,000 along with cocaine with an estimated value of €56,000 and over €12,000 in cash were seized.
Mr Sergejev was arrested and later charged.
A female aged in her 30s was also arrested but has since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the matter.
Judge Raymond Finnegan described the defendant as a "flight risk" and therefore refused a bail application.
Mr Sergejev is due to appear via video link tomorrow before Cavan District Court.
