Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, John Cummins visited Cavan this week where he met senior council officials for a briefing on the progress being made on social housing delivery in the county.
Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley, Chief Executive Eoin Doyle, and members of the senior management team hosted Minister of State Cummins in the Council Chamber on Wednesday afternoon.
The Minister of State visited a social housing development at Derrylurgan to oversee progress. The new development at Plás na hEithne, Derrylurgan in Ballyjamesduff, has nine residential units, consisting of four maisonettes and five two-bed dwellings, are under construction.
Chief Executive of Cavan County Council Eoin Doyle said he was delighted to join the Cathaoirleach in demonstrating to Minister of State Cummins the excellent work that is ongoing in Cavan in social housing provision. The Plás na hEithne development is scheduled for completion in early 2026 and the project cost of €2.39m is wholly funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage.
Director of Service Lynda McGavigan added “These homes are being developed to a very high standard, not only providing a comfortable, safe home for nine families, but also reducing carbon emissions through the use of energy efficient construction methods and materials. The design and construction of the development is also being led by local firms ‒Wynne, Gormley, Gilsenan and Crosserlough Construction respectively ‒ with the added benefit that local jobs are being support, boosting the local economy”.
