The official opening of the new Ballybay Fire Station took place today.
The modern facility represents a major investment in emergency response capability and firefighter welfare.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne officially opened the new station.
Minister Browne also got the opportunity to visit a number of affordable housing schemes in both Carrickmacross and Monaghan Town, as well as visiting the Peace Campus.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Minister Browne said today was a "significant day."
Minister Browne acknowledged the hardwork of Monaghan County Council and local fire fighters.
He said it's important to ensure that local fire fighters have the best faculties available.
Minister Browne also noted that €4 million has been allocated to Co Monaghan to help strengthen the sector under the new capital plan for fire services.
Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, PJ O'Hanlon said it's only proper order that our local fire fighters have a state of the art facility.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he praised the work and dedication of local fire staff who put their lives at risk to save others.
