A Co. Monaghan author has written about the complexities of relationships within families.
Mary O'Donnell recently published her latest novel Sweep the Cobwebs off the Sky.
The novel touches on key issues, such as favouritism in families, the burden of caring for older parents, and the silent stigma surrounding adopted children.
Mary was raised outside of Monaghan Town in a "lovely house, and a lovely family".
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Mary explained how caring for family members can be a challenge.
She said that people can sometimes be quick to categorise an elderly relative.
"It is a challenge, because apart from the physical things that have to be done- increasingly by older people themselves.
"There is an attitude towards older people, who perhaps have slight memory loss, that is very quick to categorise them as having Alzheimer's or Dementia.
"That may not be the case. I'm interested in the way that certain medical descriptions that are categorising people, may not actually be 100% accurate," she added.
