The Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, has paid tribute to the young people killed in an accident in Co. Louth.
Cllr. PJ O'Hanlon adjourned Monaghan County Council's budget meeting today in order to pay tribute to the five young people who died.
In his tribute, he said that the communities of Carrickmacross, Magheracloone, Drumconreth, Ardee, and Lanakshire have been completely numbed at the tragic loss of life.
On behalf of the members and staff of the Council, Mr. O'Hanlon offered the sincerest sympathy to the families of those who died in the crash.
He also extended well wishes to the people who sustained injuries in the accident.
Cllr O'Hanlon said: "Every families worst nightmare to receive this devastating news, and reminds us of the fragility of human life.
"These were five young people in their 20s, who were just beginning the journey of their independent lives," he added.
