A domestic violence refuge is "crucial" for Co Monaghan.
That's according to local councillor Pauric Clerkin who welcomed this week's development in relation to the much needed refuge accommodation.
It was confirmed earlier this week that a funding application for the development of a domestic violence refuge in the Cavan and Monaghan region has successfully passed the first stage.
The new refuge facility will include 12 independent units of refuge accommodation, along with essential ancillary services.
Cllr Clerkin described the development as a "hugely important" and a "welcome step forward" for people in Cavan and Monahan.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he praised the progress made on the domestic violence refuge for this local region.
He believes domestic abuse survivors deserve dignity and respect on a pathway to rebuild their lives.
