With more rainfall expected across the region over the next 48 hours, Monaghan's Chief Fire Officer has outlined the importance of adhering to safety guidelines.
According to Dermot Brannigan, relatively intense rainfall over a short time period last week had a serious impact on rivers across Co Monaghan which had already reached their max.
This caused a significant amount of flooding with as many as 38 roads impacted along with local businesses in Co Monaghan.
Since Storm Chandra, Mr Brannigan says council crews have been working tirelessly to ensure that traffic management is in place, flood defence systems have been deployed along with issuing public alerts, particularly when it comes to flood waters and the importance of motorists seeking alternative routes.
With more rainfall due over the next 48 hours, Dermot is encouraging road users to be mindful in relation to flood water.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he says not adhering to flood water guidance issued by Monaghan County Council can to lead to an intense use of fire service resources.
Dermot Brannigan told Northern Sound: "From a fire service perspective we've been deployed on a number of occasions over the last seven days to rescue people from flood water which is an intense use of our resources. People put their lives at risk when entering flood waters and we're encouraging people to be more mindful of this.
"Communities can go to the Monaghan County Council website to access what roads have been impacted due to flooding and I would advice people to use this resource before going on any journeys so that they can make travel plans."
