A delegation from the Nordic Region has arrived in Co Monaghan to participate in the Northern and Periphery Arctic Programme which is meeting for the first time of its six-year cycle.
Kirsti Mijnhijmer is the Head of Secretariat for the Programme. She told Northern Sound today that the initiative offers funding of €51m for communities, enterprises and local authorities.
Meanwhile, Ireland and the Northern and Western Regional Assembly holds the Chair of the NPA, and for the first time, Monaghan has been included as a 'fundable region'. It was determined earlier this year that this meeting would take place in the county thus providing it with an opportunity to showcase what's on offer here.
"This is actually the first meeting of the new programme 221-2027. We are very happy to be here in Monaghan because its a new part of our programme area in Ireland," added Kirsti.
"We are here to welcome this new region into the family. We have countries around the table that include Finland, Faro Islands, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Greenland and of course Ireland."
