RTE has announced that it will expand its Irish language commentary on major international rugby and soccer fixtures.
This will begin with Ireland's Six Nations clash with England tomorrow.
RTE began to broadcast the All-Ireland football and hurling finals live as Gaeilge in 2015.
Local Irish language activist, Sean O'Murchadha believes that the language should be integrated into every aspect of Irish life.
The Co. Monaghan man highlighted that Irish is the first language in the constitution, and that the gesture from RTE is not tokenistic.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning he said that anything that allows people to use Irish in their everyday life should be welcomed.
Seán believes that the Irish language has been minoritised.
He said: "From your perspective, the language is a minority language and a minority past-time to some extent. I would argue, that its not so much a minority language, it has been minoritisied.
"We are very conscious that this was the national language, it still is the national language. Its incumbent on us to do whatever we can. You can see in the Northern Sound region, whereby the likes of Monaghan has the highest percentage of Irish language speakers outside of the Gaeltacht," he added.
