A Monaghan nursing home has received a positive report from HIQA inspectors.
It follows an unannounced inspection at Castleross Nursing Home in Carrickmacross.
Castleross Nursing Home can accommodate up to 125 residents, having 91 single and 17 twin bedrooms.
Residents are located in four individual houses, and there are also two civic centres - the village centre and Kavanagh community centre for daily activities.
Each household is individually staffed and includes a homemaker who is responsible to create a homely environment.
From the 113 residents present on the day of the inspection, inspectors spoke with nine residents and six visitors, most of whom expressed how 'fantastic' and 'well-managed' the service was.
Residents who were living with a diagnosis of dementia or cognitive impairment who were unable to express their opinions on the quality of life in the centre appeared to be relaxed and enjoying being in the company of staff.
Inspectors found that Castleross was a good centre where residents were supported to have a good quality of life that enabled their independence in accordance with their ability.
However, some improvements in oversight arrangements for infection prevention and cleaning required strengthening to ensure staff were familiar with procedures.
A substantial compliance was also identified in fire management, with more action requested to ensure adequate precautions against the risk of fire.
Overall, the centre received 8 full compliances, 5 substantial compliances, and no non-compliances.
