78% of SMEs in Cavan and Monaghan believe AI can positively impact their business and 68% expect it to drive growth in 2026.
However, while the opportunity is clear, adoption in the region lags behind with only 14% describing AI as central to their operations.
The study carried out by Amárach Research spoke to a number of SMEs across Cavan and Monaghan.
Responding to this need, Google in partnership with Enterprise Ireland will host a series of face-to-face regional events aimed at equipping SMEs with practical AI skills for business.
AI Works Monaghan will take place at the Peace Campus on the 28th of May.
Clontibret native Cera Ward is the Managing Director of Central Europe for Google who will speak at the event.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cera explained: "Through my work with Google, I've had the opportunity to see first-hand the ambition of Irish SMEs and their strong belief in what AI can unlock for their businesses.
"What's often missing isn't intent, but the confidence and practical know-how to get started. Our aim is to ensure every business has the opportunity to participate in, and benefit from, an AI-powered economy.
"As someone from Clontibret, County Monaghan, it's particularly special to support an initiative like AI Works for Ireland, one that brings the skills and expertise needed directly to local businesses. This programme is focused on making AI real and accessible - helping people move from curiosity to capability and I am encouraging SMEs from the region to register for the event on 28 May."
Pamela Kerr, Head of Enterprise, Local Enterprise Office, Monaghan: "At a time when many businesses are seeking clear guidance on how to best use AI, this initiative will help SMEs develop the skills and confidence needed to get started. Through AI Works for Ireland, Local Enterprise Offices, in partnership with Google and Enterprise Ireland will provide practical support locally to ensure businesses throughout Ireland are better prepared to succeed in an increasingly digital world."
