A more "robust approach" is needed to tackle anti-social behaviour in Monaghan Town.
That's according to Cllr Sean Conlon who is calling for Monaghan County Council to write to An Garda Siochana to raise awareness of the issue of anti-social behaviour which he says is a repeated item on the monthly agenda of local authority meetings.
On behalf of residents, business owners and visitors to the Monaghan Town area, Cllr Conlon is respectfully seeking a more robust approach at policing aimed at curtailing continued disturbance in the town area.
While the Sinn Fein representative understands that resources are stretched, he believes Gardai have a role to play and a simple "slap on the wrist approach" is not doing anything to help the situation.
Fears have emerged that the local town has not presented itself the way many would like due repeated occurrences of anti-social behaviour by a small number of "malevolent individuals."
Cllr Conlon believes Government agencies who have been tasked to implement laws must have an active role in ensuring that Monaghan Town is a more pleasant place to visit or have a business in.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Conlon said appropriate forces are needed to implement the law.
