Nearly three thousand drivers were caught speeding during the latest Garda road safety campaign.
Among those was a motorist detected travelling at 188km/h in a 100 zone on the M50 in Templeogue in Dublin.
The Garda June Bank Holiday policing operation ran from Thursday morning until 7am today. During that period, one motorist was detected travelling at 143km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N87 in Belturbet.
While another motorist was detected at almost double the speed through Clones at 99km/h in a 50km/h zone. Nationally during the bank holiday weekend, there was one fatality on the roads, and 14 serious crashes. 167 people were arrested for suspected drink or drug driving.
