A local TD has raised the need for a direct Cavan/Dublin bus service.
Deputy Brendan Smith raised the matter directly with the Minister of State for Transport in Dáil Éireann.
The Fianna Fail TD is calling for early morning buses leaving Cavan Town to only stop in Virginia and Whitegate and go directly to the city centre.
Deputy Smith believes "too many" services have to go through various towns in Meath which makes the journey longer and creates "prolonged" waiting times.
In addition to this, he believes there should be direct services from Dublin back to Cavan Town stopping only at Whitegate, Virginia and in Lavey.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith says there is a "simple remedy" to ensure that a better service is provided.
He says that decision can only made be made by the National Transport Authority:
"Maybe people, having been in hospital, having treatment, are standing at a bus stop, maybe near the Mater Hospital in Dublin, for argument's sake, at Phibsborough or in Blanchardstown coming from James Connolly Hospital, or people coming from the different colleges. They shouldn't have to wait another hour for a bus or maybe more than that. While that same bus will be half empty from Navan and from Kells on in the rest of their journey to Cavern Town."
