A new housing development for Carrickmacross has been given the go-ahead by the higher planning authority.
Planning permission for a development of 4 houses in Lisanisk was upheld by An Bórd Pleanála following despite appeals by local residents. Clarlan Limited applied to Monaghan County Council to construct 4 detached, two storey 4 bed houses in Carrickmacross. The houses would each have their own detached garages and individual vehicular entrances. To facilitate the buildings, the existing outbuildings and stables on the site would be demolished. Plans for the new houses were granted by Monaghan County Council but it was then appealed to An Bórd Pleanála. 4 appeals were from residents of properties fronting the site to the east and accessed off the same private roadway. The other 2 appellants are residents of properties which back onto the rear or western boundary of the site. Their appeals cite issues with loss of privacy and visual amenities as a result of the new builds. They also raise concerns with increased traffic levels on the private laneway, asbestos disposal from the derelict outbuildings, and state that the planning department's decision prioritises financial gain over the well-being of local residents.
An Bórd Pleanála rejected the appeal and upheld the council's decision to grant permission with 19 conditions attached including that all telecom and electrical cables supplying the houses be located underground.
