A new an orange alert for extremely cold weather has been issued for this evening.
The warning comes into effect from 6pm and mainly affects midland area - including Cavan and Monaghan.
Met Éireann says severe frost and ice is expected in affected counties, with patches of freezing fog in places.

Meanwhile, lows of minus 8 were recorded in parts of the west and midlands overnight.
