Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith said he will continue to highlight the need for additional special education places for children in Cavan/Monaghan and also the provision in a timely manner of adequate therapy services. He added that at present, the delay in children accessing therapy services is totally unacceptable.
Elsewhere, Local Fianna Fáil Minister Niamh Smyth has welcomed the announcement that a further six new special classes will be introduced across Cavan-Monaghan for the 2025/2026 school year. Deputy Smyth told Northern Sound; "This is an important step in ensuring that children with additional needs have the opportunity to learn and thrive in an inclusive setting within their local community. Today’s announcement follows on from a number of classes which were sanctioned locally in the Cavan & Monaghan in recent weeks. More classes are expected to be announced soon, which will further enhance our ability to meet the needs of students requiring extra support. Ensuring access to quality education for every child remains a top priority for Fianna Fáil in Government. I will continue to work closely with local schools, families, and the Department to secure further investment in special education across Swords and beyond."
