No more road resurfacing funding expected for local authorities this year

A local TD has asked for clarification on whether Cavan and Monaghan County Councils will get additional funding for road resurfacing.
Matt Carthy put the question to the Minister for Transport in a Parliamentary Question.
In his response to Matt Carthy's question, Darragh O'Brien, said Cavan County Council received, an allocation of €19,193,150 which is an increase of €1,752,840 on their 2024 allocation.
Monaghan County Council received an allocation of €18,008,350 which is an increase of €1,751,255.

He said all 2025 grant funding available to the Department for regional and local roads has now been allocated.
Deputy Carthy also asked for information on the total allocations to each council in 2026.
Responding to this the Minister said 2026 regional and local road grant allocations will be finalised following the publication of the Revised Estimates Volume.
He added that within the budget available, the objective is to allocate funding to eligible local authorities on as equitable a basis as possible taking the length of the road network into account.
