No Uisce Eireann agreement on taking in charge of Corduff estate

Cllr Noel Keelan said its been a very slow process and it's totally unacceptable for good, decent people who are are trying to pay their bills and have bought their homes in good faith.

The up-to-date position on the taking in charge by Monaghan County Council of the Sliabh Dubh housing estate in the Corduff area was recently requested by Cllr Noel Keelan.

The estate was constructed over 20 years ago and developed to a high standard, however the developer was not in a position to finish the estate.

According to Cllr Keelan, Monaghan County Council received an application to take this estate in charge.

Under the legislation Monaghan County Council was prepared to take this estate in charge.

However, there is a difficulty as Sliabh Dubh is serviced by a DPI therefore Uisce Eireann will not allow this estate to be taken in charge.

Cllr Keelan says the local authority has prepared to move forward and take this in charge, but unfortunately Uisce Eireann will not concede to this which is holding up the process.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Noel Keelan said there's huge responsibility on Uisce Eireann and a greater responsibility on the Government who have not funded Uisce Eireann to the degree that it needs to be funded.

Cllr Keelan warned there are residents living across Co Monaghan who deserve more and the current situation is totally unacceptable. He said it's not acceptable that Uisce Eireann and Government have not progressed this issue at a more rapid pace:
