The whole country is under a status yellow wind warning for the rest of the day

There are a number of homes in County Cavan and County Monaghan without power this morning.

The whole country is under a status yellow wind warning for the rest of the day as Storm Chandra bears down.

Met Eireann has issued the alert for all counties which will remain in place until 11pm tonight.

A separate yellow warning for rain for Carlow, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford expires at the same time.

The forecaster is warning the public to watch out for fallen trees and loose debris, wave overtopping near the coast and hazardous travel conditions.

There are 120 ESB customers reportedly without power in Bailieboro this morning, In Carrickmacross 41 were impacted, Castleblayney 42 were without power, 1429 have been with no power in Errigal,  in Shercock 1083 were without power and in Virginia the number is 717.

An amber wind warning is in place in Antrim, Down and Derry with a large number of schools set to remain closed this morning.

Some schools in Cavan are not opening this morning.

In Cootehill, Darley National School, St Micheal's National School and St Aidan's Comprehensive are closed today.
