A local dairy specialist has noted the growing number of students at the agricultural college in Ballyhaise.
James Dunne is Teagasc Dairy Specialist based in Ballyhaise.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he said that the dairy enterprise delivers the highest margin year-on-year across other enterprises.
He said that there are opportunities for young farmers to enter into the industry, and that positivity is needed.
Mr. Dunne acknowledged growing concerns among the young farmers about succession, and generational renewal.
The dairy specialist highlighted the idea of partnerships, profit sharing, and leasing farming.
He said that farmers should consider what the best option is for particular individuals.
