The family say they are devastated by the damage caused to the home where they grew up.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for a Co Monaghan family following an extensive fire at their home over the weekend.

In the early hours of Saturday morning on the 17th of May a house in Castleblayney was partially destroyed in the fire.

The family say they are devastated by the loss of the home where they grew up along with childhood pictures, sentimental keepsakes and irreplaceable belongings.

Shannen Murphy who has set up the online fundraiser on behalf of her family said that treasured original photographs of her beloved grandparents were also destroyed in the fire.

She acknowledged the family were lucky that no one was injured and even though the blaze did not rip through the entire house, extensive and costly damage has been caused.

She said, “we were lucky that the fire did not destroy the entire house, and while we will never be able to replace what was lost, there is still extensive damage and a lot of costly work to be done to try and repair our home.

“We would be eternally grateful for anything you can do or give to help, financial or otherwise.”
