Over 3,000 people are on a waiting list for CT and MRI scans at Cavan General Hospital.
The figures were released following a parliamentary question from local TD Cathy Bennett.
According to Health Minister, Jennifer Carroll MacNeil, a total of 3,401 patients were waiting for CT and MRI scans at Cavan General in Quarter 1 of this year Of those, 1,807 people are waiting for a CT scan whilst 1,594 are waiting for an MRI. This represents all outpatients waiting, urgent, semi urgent, routine and planned/surveillance.
It was recently confirmed that the MRI scanner at Cavan General is due to be upgraded, with preparatory work underway for the installation of a new scanner.
A scanner for Monaghan Hospital has previously been ruled out by the Department of Health.
