Towns and villages across the country experienced falling crime rates last year, with almost three-quarters of all garda stations recording fewer criminal offences than the previous year.
An analysis by the Irish Independent of more than 274,000 crimes recorded on the Garda Pulse system last year reveals that 72pc of the national network of 564 garda stations had a reduction in crime.
3,233 crimes were recorded across 17 garda stations in the county of Cavan during 2025.
Dowra, Swanlinbar and Killeshandra recorded the lowest crimes recorded in the county, while Cavan Town recorded 1500 crimes last year. Kilnaleck station recorded 78 offences in 2025, one of the highest for a rural station in Cavan.
2,436 crimes were recorded across Monaghan in 2025. 937 crimes were reported in Monaghan Town alone, followed in by 610 in Carrickmacross.
The lowest in the county was 22 in Rockcorry. The figures complied by the Irish Independent did not include homicides, sexual offences and fraud offences for 2025.
Shercock, Arva, Blacklion, Killeshandra and Dowra were the only garda stations in the region not to have any reports of burglaries last year.
