Over 800 marriages recorded in Northern Sound region in 2024

That's according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) this week.

There was 870 marriages recorded in the Northern Sound region in 2024.

In 2024, there was 535 opposite-sex marriages recorded in Co. Cavan, and 322 in Co. Monaghan.
Meanwhile, in 2024 there was seven same-sex marriages in Co. Cavan, and six in Co. Monaghan.
In Cavan, 204 of the ceremonies were Roman Catholic, 12 were Church of Ireland, and three were Presbyterian. 112 of the marriages in Co. Cavan were other religious denominations, and

107 were civil marriages.
In Co. Monaghan, 322 marriages recorded in 2024, with 147 recorded as Roman Catholic.
According to the CSO, 18 of the marriages were Church of Ireland, and 10 were Presbyterian.
39 of the marriages were recorded as other religious denomination, and 63 were civil marriages.
Nationally, Roman Catholic ceremonies were the most common marriage type in 2014 at 13,071, while in 2024 these had fallen by almost 51% to 6,425 such ceremonies, making them the second most popular choice.
Civil Registrations were the most popular type of ceremony in 2024 at 6,743.
The CSO noted that, overall, fewer couples are getting married in Ireland.
Between 2014 and 2024, the number of marriages (including both opposite and same-sex couples) decreased by 7.7% from 22,045 to 20,348.
