Gardaí along with other emergency services are at the scene of a road traffic collision on the N3 in Lavey, Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan this afternoon.
The road is currently closed at the Lavey junction and local diversions are in place.
In a statement Cavan County Council said;"Following an earlier notice, motorists are advised that a section of the N3 after the Bent Elbow remains closed due to a serious road collision. The closure is expected to remain in place until late this evening, with the possibility that it may continue into tomorrow.
Diversions are in place as follows:
Southbound traffic is being diverted at The Lavey Inn, travelling via Bailieborough and rejoining the N3 at Virginia.
Northbound traffic travelling from Virginia and New Inns is being diverted via Ballyjamesduff and through Crosskeys.
Road users are advised to expect delays, adhere to all diversion signage and allow additional travel time."
