The local council said the proposed structure would be in a "dominant and overbearing location".

Plans for a 70ft mobile phone communications mast in Cavan has been refused for the second time in barely six months.

Cavan County Council rejected plans tabled by telecoms mast company, Vantage Towers to erect a 21 metre high telecommunications structure at Moynehall Car Sales.

The local council said the proposed structure would be in a "dominant and overbearing location" and would negatively impact on the visual amenities of the locality.

Vantage Towers owns, operates, and manages 82,000 towers across ten countries and boasts 1,300 sites across Ireland alone.

Senior bosses argued the appetite for the development was based largely on the "inadequate" coverage leading telecommunication firms Vodafone, Eir and Three were currently experiencing in the area.

One submission against the project noted seven points of concern in their objection, ranging from the visual impact the mast's development would have on the area, to the "inadequate justification" for the site's proposed location.
