"At long last a planning application has been lodged".
These were the sentiments expressed by Cllr Shane P O’Reilly following the announcement yesterday evening that Irish Water has applied to Cavan County Council for permission to upgrade the wastewater treatment facility in Virginia.
Cllr O’Reilly said it was a moment he had been waiting for and one that has been years in the making.

He pointed out that the facility’s upgrade was "urgently needed" to enhance the growth and development of the area.
Cllr O’Reilly added that he had campaigned "vigorously" for this outcome and looked forward to progress on the matter "sooner rather than later".
