Monaghan County Council have officially lodged an application to carry out major regeneration works in Monaghan Town.
The Dublin Street north and Backlands Regeneration Project is a multi-million euro investment in public realm enhancements. Monaghan County Council previously received the go ahead to carry out works to Dublin Street and areas south of it. This was granted €13 million in funding in January of this year Now a new application has been lodged with An Bórd Pleanála which will see further enhancement works carried out on Dublin Street and backlands to the north in the townlands of Tirkeenan and Rooskey. Plans include the creation of of a new central street to the rear of properties fronting Dublin Street including the provision of a temporary event space and central car park. A brand new public car park is also set to be constructed along with public realm improvements to Old Cross Square consisting of the creation of urban civic spaces, pedestrian pavements, cycle routes, street furniture and the Relocation of Old Cross Monument. The Diamond Centre car park is also set to get a revamp, with the inclusion of EV charging. Buildings located at Unit 1 and Unit 2 of Old Cross Square and to the rear of of numbers 32-62 Dublin Streeti ncluding a structure within the curtilage of No. 57 Dublin Street and No. 4 The Diamond Centre are all to be demolished. These new works are to coincide with the Dublin Street south regeneration project.
The application has been lodged now with An Bórd Pleanála, at a cost of €30,000 and a decision will be made on it in the coming months]
