Tributes continue to pour in for the late Dr Rory O'Hanlon, with President Catherin Connolly contributing this afternoon.
The late Dr Rory O'Hanlon has been described by those who knew him as a "caring practitioner" and "one of the most experienced public representatives across any party" in Ireland.
The former Cavan-Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD died yesterday at home surrounded by his family.
President Connolly expressed sadness at his passing.
“As President of Ireland, may I join with all those who have expressed their sadness on learning of the death of Dr Rory O’Hanlon.
Rory’s life, both as a politician and as a medical doctor, was dedicated to public service. Across his political career he served with distinction as a TD, Minister, Minister of State, Leas Ceann Comhairle, and Ceann Comhairle. It is a mark of that work, both as a politician and as a local doctor, that he has been remembered so fondly by those who served alongside him and whom he served and cared for.
May I express my deepest condolences to Rory’s wife Teresa, to their children Fiona, Rory, Ardal, Neale, Shane, and Derbhla, and to all of Rory’s extended family, friends, colleagues and community in Monaghan.”
