Monaghan County Council has received praise for its efforts to address dereliction in Monaghan Town.
Cllr Pauric Clekrin says "great work" has been carried out at the Assembly rooms on Dawson Street.
While the local authority is currently in the process of a sale agreement in relation to the building, Cllr Clekrin says current works and the general tidying of the building and its surroundings have "not gone unnoticed."
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Clerkin commended Monaghan County Council for bringing this important building back into positive use, adding that there is a real "feel-good factor in the town."
Cllr Clerkin also praised the Croí Cónaithe property refurbishment grant which has been able to support people despite the current housing crisis, with Monaghan County Council receiving a total of 483 applications.
The Fine Gael representative believes staff at Monaghan County Council are actively one of the best local authorities in the country when it comes to brining buildings back into use.
He told Northern Sound: "A lot of people have been making comment to me about Monaghan Town in general and how the landscape of the town in changing and you can se that a lot of work has been done in regards to dereliction. Even in Park Street there the old Albany building looks a lot better than it did in previous years since the unfortunate fire took place there.
"It was something that was brought to my attention and I think it's important to commend the team within the county council for the work they are doing."
