Management at Cavan General Hospital is asking the public to attend the emergency department for serious ailments only. The request follows a high volume of patients over the last 24 hours.
Management is advising the public to attend GPs and pharmacies rather than seeking treatment at the hospital's emergency department.
It says the public's support is appreciated at this time. Meanwhile, there are 23 patients waiting on a bed at Cavan General Hospital this morning - one of the highest in the country.
