The Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council has confirmed that long-awaited public lighting upgrades on Main Street, Carrickmacross, will commence this weekend.
Cllr PJ O'Hanlon confirmed the news this afternoon on the Wider View programme.
He said it's hoped that the works will be completed in four to five days.
The local man said it was an issue that all local councillors had highlighted in the past, adding it was great to finally see it happening.
Cllr O'Hanlon said it will make the town much safer and he said it was great news for the town.
