Questions raised locally over removal of anti-pylon poster

According to Gardai a vehicle which was illegally parked was the cause behind the removal of the poster.

Questions have been raised locally over the removal of an anti-pylon poster in Monaghan Town.

Cavan-Monaghan TD Cathy Bennett informed Northern Sound that she has received a number of complaints following the removal of an anti-pylon poster at the Peace Campus.

The incident took place last Saturday during Fine Gael's presidential launch for Heather Humphreys.

According to Deputy Bennett, this was a silent protest to convey a message to government parties that people do not want pylons on their land.

She says residents understand the need for additional electricity, however pylons must go underground just like in other areas.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Bennett said this poster is used right across the county and people want to know why it was removed.

In response to why the poster was removed, Gardai issued a statement to Northern Sound stating: "Gardaí made attempts to contact the owner of a vehicle which was illegally parked on the footpath at Plantation Road, Monaghan, on 13th September. The owner did not engage with Gardaí and the vehicle was subsequently towed away."
