The HSE's capital plan has set out a raft of future projects for Cavan and Monaghan facilities.
A brand new primary care centre for Ballyconnell and new adult respite centre in Monaghan Town all form part of an almost €15 million investment. The 2025 capital plan for buildings and equipment sets out how the HSE plans to spend the €1.3 billion health budget on this year. Cavan General Hospital features heavily in the plans with funding given for the detailed design of the already approved multi storey extention incorporating a New Endoscopy Unit, 18 bed ward accommodation and the relocation of the existing ED Department . The 18 bed ward would contain 16 single rooms with ensuites and 2 isolation rooms. Detailed designs for the other three storey extension on site including an Oncology unit and a brand new Aseptic unit, which could be used for cancer treatment services are also part of the plan. A new announcement is a 30 bed Adult Mental Health Unit to replace the existing 25 bed unit on site with appraisals for that underway. West Cavan is also getting a boost with plans for a new primary care centre in Ballyconnell revealed. This would cater for both adults and children and is also set to have 2 dental surgeries on site. The tender has also gone out for the renovation of the existing St Christopher's Hospice, consisting of four extensions to contain a specialist inpatient palliative care unit, a palliative care
hub, education and bereavement service
Virginia Community Care Centre has also received funding to carry out fire safety works
The HSE have also confirmed that they are planning to purchase the Liberty Insurance Building in Cavan Town, however has not specified the purpose.
In Monaghan, funding has been provided to continue works on St Davnet's Hospital, which now contains the North Monaghan Primary Care Centre.
The new Ballybay Primary Care Centre is slated for completion this year according to the plan.
In terms of new developments, the HSE have confirmed they are looking at purchasing a property on the Ballybay Road in Monaghan Town.
The plan would be for the building to house a new adult disability respite centre.
