An Irish Language advocate says she's delighted to see it become one of the issues of the upcoming presidential election.
Advocacy manager with Conradh na Gaeilge Róisín Ní Chinnéide was speaking in reaction to a promise made by Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys that she will learn Irish if elected as president.
The question of if the President of Ireland should be fluent in Irish has become a recent topic of conversation for the upcoming election.
As it stands it is not a legal requirement though, Róisín believes this is something that could be discussed and debated, noting that language is not something we are born with and effort can be made to learn it at any time.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Róisín said it's about respect.
