The removal of the ATM on the Main Street of Virginia has been described as another nail in the coffin when it comes to the demise rural services.
Cllr TP O'Reilly says the loss of the ATM is a part of the constant taking away of services not just in Virginia but across the country.
The Fine Gael councillor raised the issue yesterday at the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District meeting.
The removal of the ATM without prior notice has been met with anger and upset as there is now no 24hr ATM in the town.
The local rep says it's unfair especially on older people and it's not good enough that no consolation took place in relation to having the service in the town and he wants to see it reinstated.
Cllr O'Reilly says the operator says the ATM was being removed due to a decrease in usage.
