There are renewed calls for a ban on greyhound racing.
It comes after Scotland and Wales voted to outlaw the sport last week.
In the past two years, 399 greyhounds were killed on tracks here as a result of injuries sustained while racing.
Nuala Donlon, spokesperson for Greyhound Action Ireland, says the real welfare problem is the animals killed off the track as 'wastage'.
Sinn Fein councillor Colm Carthy said his party does not support banning greyhound racing.
Despite this, he believes welfare standards must be at the "highest level" and that "proper enforcement" is needed for those who don't adhere to welfare regulations:
