The number of derelict properties around the country has fallen, according to the latest Geo Directory Residential Buildings Report.
In Cavan the residential vacancy rate stands at 6,7% in Q2 of this year compared to the national record low of 3.7%.
A total of 80,328 residential properties were recorded as vacant across the country as of June 2025.
The lowest vacancy rates in the country were recorded in Dublin at 1.1%, while the highest residential vacancy rates continue to be found along the North and West coast with Leitrim, at 11.9%.
In Monaghan, the residential vacancy rate in Q2 2025 stood at 4.5%. At the end of 2024, the vacancy rate in Cavan stood at 7% and 4.5% in Monaghan.
19,821 residential buildings were classified as derelict in June 2025, 2.9% lower compared to June 2024. Based on CSO data, in Cavan, the average property transaction price was €250,438, while the average price in Monaghan was 230,844. Dara Keogh from Geo Directory says the vacancy rate in Cavan needs to be addressed going forward.
