Rise in suspected Norovirus cases at Cavan General

Novovirus is highly contagious and causes symptoms such as as vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, and stomach cramps.

The public are being advised to only attend Cavan General's Emergency Department in emergencies as it battles with high trolley numbers.

20 patients are on trolleys in the hospital, with all of those waiting in the Emergency Department. It comes as the HSE issued a statement highlighting a notable rise in patients presenting with gastroenteritis or suspected Norovirus at Cavan General. Norovirus is highly contagious and causes symptoms such as as vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, and stomach cramps. The outbreak has occurred in multiple locations and the HSE are urging healthcare providers and the public to take necessary precautions to prevent further spread. Monaghan Injury Unit is available between 8am to 8pm whilst out of hours GP services are also available.
