Safety concerns at Scoil Mhuire Gransha raised

A Monaghan councillor is calling for safety concerns at Scoil Mhuire Gransha to be addressed.

Cllr Sinead Flynn put forward a motion at this month's sitting of Monaghan County Council following a serious road safety incident at Scoil Mhuire Gransha when a car lost control and collided with barriers and staff cars.

"Thankfully" no one was injured according to Cllr Flynn however she said it "could have been a tragedy" as the car park was full of parents waiting to collect their children.

Cllr Flynn continued: "This school community has long sought urgent road safety improvements. In correspondence dated November 2023, it was confirmed that Scoil Mhuire Gransha was to be included in TII's Safe Routes to School programme.

"However, even with the reduced 60km/h speed limit and flashing school warning signs now in place, the stretch of road outside the school remains a major safety concern. This latest incident once again highlights just how dangerous the situation is.

"Delaying action for another report or funding allocation is not an option - protecting our children must remain the top priority."
